The Muharraq Municipal Council completed a study of Muharraq’s 15 official heritage sites Å only to find that one was missing! While investigating the sites, councillor and public relations head Salah Al Jowder discovered that Abdul Noor Al Bastaki House, which was at least 100 years old, had been demolished by its present owners within the last two years.
“Heritage sites are under the supervision of the Information Ministry, but in most cases they are still owned by nationals,” he said.
“We are recommending to the committee to repossess the properties as soon as possible. The reason that this house was destroyed is because it was lying unused for a long time.
