The only way I have of checking various internet sites, including all of mine since yesterday afternoon is through shell access! Yay, I’m taking a trip back in time to 1986 with the BBS world before the Internet took the world by storm… Batelco are having a spate of “technical problems” with their ADSL lines. Again.
I can go to some sites if I’m lucky, but none of mine work. To make matters worse I cannot find a way to post or comment using the text-based “links” browser from an ssh shell. I’ve got to go to a meeting in a few minutes, but will investigate further to familiarise myself with links as I am damned sure that it will come in handy once again. It’s a matter not of “if” Batelco screws up again, it’s “when!”
The sooner the TRA gets going with the independent ISPs the better. At the very least it should increase the standards of service offered.
Now let’s see if this post can actually be posted!

Damn Batelco strikes again
Ouch.
Links is a kludgy program, to be sure, but your post came out fine. One thing that helps out in Links is to hit esc – that brings up a menu. Just use the arrow keys to select the option that you’re looking for 🙂

Damn that’s nice! I never knew about the ESCape key, do now for next time. Thanks Ethan!
That also reminds me to RTFM next time too (and when the next time comes, this will be shelved for the next next time :))

Always a pleasure to help out a new linux user 🙂

Damn Batelco strikes again
I hate batelco. When oh when will the recently licensed ISPs enter the market? I’m so sick of paying DSL price for 14.4k modem speed. Grrr… angry Chan’ad.
Re: Damn Batelco strikes again
how the hell did you get the speed up to 14.4? mine is still running at 9600 bps and we’re paying business rates on a 512k line!
