Tiny Gulf state unfurls huge flag

Bahrain – the smallest Gulf state – has unfurled the world’s largest national flag at a sports stadium car park.

The flag measures 169.5 metres (555 feet) by 97.1 metres (318 feet) and has been checked by a representative from the Guinness Book of World Records.

The venue was chosen because the red and white banner was too big to fit inside the stadium itself.

“It’s a great flag for a great country,” said Information Minister Nabeel al-Hamer.

The flag has been an international effort. It was donated to the king of Bahrain by a Kuwait-based telecom company, MTC-Vodafone, and it was made in China.

Seventy people worked for 400 hours to make the 16,458.45 sq-m flag and the finished product weighs 3,200kg.

It beat the previous record holder – a Pakistani flag displayed at a cricket ground in August – by 359 sq m.

Guinness representative Laura Hughes, who flew from Britain to measure the flag, described it as “spectacular”. She said the achievement would be recorded in next year’s record book.

according to Ken said: “instead of making the biggest library in the world, the highest ratio of educated people and the best living standard, they make the biggest flag
and worse he added “they buy it from china” heI could also bought a big flag from china too

however according to Admood, said it might do nothing for him. but after seeing the flag, i respect that country,.it shows me that no matter how big, cocky, aragent the flag seems. he finds, Bahrain welcomes infidals.

Thanks to both comments from ppl who understand democracy,

For God sake we are talking about a Flag, with respect to your opinion, it doesn’t belong here…
I believe the comment which was made by the first person, illustrated to focus on the beauty about sharing ideas and not involvement in political stage show.
Thanks, for giving me the opportunity…..
    God bless……

    Stoned in Seattle

I’m not sure what the person who posted almost all the comments above is up to really. It seems that Seattle doesn’t only produce insomniacs, but this particular case the good, clean mountain air there seems to have affected this person adversely that s/he seems to be permanently stoned too.

Give it up before it’s too late. We haven’t had that many people answering themselves, well we have and generally that is to correct themselves, as for your situation you seem to be TALKING to youself! Get some help before it’s too late.

It’s SO unfortunate that your name is Mahmood too! Want some more information about you? You’re watching live TV right now… You have a subscription to BeyondTV and you have not paid your subscription to the Program Guide on SnapStream.

For goodness sake fix your security settings on your cable, before someone else does!

Need more? How about checking your own connection which is on (deleted)

    Now, behave yourself.

Re: Tiny Gulf state unfurls huge flag

Every single content management system or blogging software gives the administrator the opportunity to see at least a poster’s IP address in order to control a situation such as this, which is no more than abuse, and even tracing people who threaten life and limb.

You forget that this site is a personal weblog first and foremost and you, as well as the previous commenter are guests here, as such you should behave as you would in one of your friend’s homes.

Would you shit on your friend’s carpet and not expect to be thrown out or at least brought to book?
