Amna (eldest daughter) and Arif (youngest of the children, a boy) get along well enough together, if you keep the knives, forks and any other sharp or dangerous objects firmly locked up and out of their reach.
They’re all on their Christmas holidays at the moment and apparently their mother sat them down and got them to promise to be nice to each other during the holidays, which they have done.
As parents we are gratified that we still have the eldest and the youngest alive, even after 4 days of holidays!
The secret?
Amna says that as promised, she is nice to her brother: she smiles when (not if) she swears at him, and always tells him politely to shove off, using that word “please.”
Arif on the other hand says that whenever he sees her smile while looking at him, he RUNS!
Ahhhh, the joys of parenting!

Siblings
They’re great, aren’t they? My daughter is the oldest among three younger brothers. This means she’s “in charge” having seniority, but the boys insist they go by the “majority rules” idea. She came to me once complaining that she tried diplomacy in a disagreement over who gets the tv remote, but in the end she had to use her size advantage. Well, I tried.

In my younger days, as an observant Catholic, I would go regularly to confession with my Dad and little sister, and here we will refer to her as “Violet Elizabeth” to protect the sinner/ little bugger.
Well this one Saturday evening, the Parish Priest had taken a look at us before we went in. He knew Violet Elizabeth was sore at me, because I wouldn’t let her play with my new Christmas wristwatch (40 quid- really expensive then).
So he decided to bring his ideas about social engineering into the confessional. My penance was to allow Violet Elizabeth to play with my new watch. Hers was to allow me to play with her Fuzzy Felts.
Full of Hell, she marched to the back of the church, smacked me in the mouth, and screamed “Get yer own bloody fuzzy felts you horrible beastly poop”
And that is how we started brawling in the back of our church.
And then the Priest came running out to try to seperate us, and unfortunately, Mother walked in at this point, and started berating the Priest “I spent 40 quid on that watch you fool!”
Next morning, Violet Elizabeth and I both woke up with Chickenpox, and were unable to attend mass. Verily the Lord worketh in mysterious ways….

Re: Siblings
yep, they have!
Amna for instance was reading a blog on one of her regular haunts yesterday and I asked her why she doesn’t have her own blog. The response: “I’m not that sad”
Bloody teenagers! She thinks my blogging is “sad”. And there you have it, the high esteem I am held in! 🙂
Re: Siblings
but with all the brawling you know that she’ll stand up for you in the school-yard or elsewhere. That’s what happens with the 3 of them, they might fight/screem at each other at home, but outside when on their own they look after each other. that’s the important thing I think.
hopefully also that as we have created a good trusting environment for them now, they’ll stick together once they are grown and leading their own lives.
Re(1): Siblings
Oh sure, we could knock nine bells of hell out of each other, but any outsider who crossed one of us, crossed both of us. I’m sure that’s how it will be for your bairns too.

Re(1): Siblings
We have two children, 12 and 13. Filza(girl), Fozan(Boy) and a third one on the way. Everything is “sad” and Manal(my wife) and I are so incredibly “uncool”. I guess if I was 12 and 13 I might agree, we are an usual lot. I am the white guy who loves Arabic music and my wife is the Saudi who loves lounge music and tech, all “no-nos” here in the USA.
My daughter complains I read too much, but doesnt stop her from reading all of her teen magazines and my son from spending hours playing video games. I guess I have to keep it all in perspective, I thought the same way of my parents.

Grandchildren are your reward for not murdering the kids.
