In the midst of turmoil, this seems quite banal, but life must go on in the face of adversity.
In the spirit of an end to another year, people tend to review what has passed in order maybe to set up for what’s coming afresh, therefore Haitham Sabbah and myself have decided to create an Arab-wide blog awards. We believe it is the first all encompassing award available in the Arab world at the moment. The intention however was never to just be the first at doing something, rather recognising and celebrating our differences as Arabs through the various excellent blogs which have in one way or another increased understanding between Arabs themselves and the wider world. Blogs have truly created a bridge between ourselves, the Arabs and the world at large.
The Best of Arab Blogs Awards therefore has been born. You are welcome to nominate blogs you admire or have come across. There are various categories you can consider, 40 actually! And a blog can be submitted into any one or more categories as you see fit.
The nomination process is not exclusive to blog visitors, but bloggers themselves can nominate their own blog as well, so don’t be bashful about submitting your own blog.
In order to spread the word, please consider placing one or more of these icons on your own blog. Of course if you are nominated, then display the “nominated” badge with pride!

Best Arab Blog Awards
That is a great idea Mahmood. Thank you. I hope this will help promote arabic blogs and help us to get to know other new blogs.
Best Arab Blog Awards
I hope this is a good time to ask; is there a way to traslate Arab blogs into English? I’ve found ways to translate many languages, even difficult ones like Japanese, but nothing to translate form Arabic to English… do you know of any translators that could do that?

Re: Best Arab Blog Awards
I don’t know of any other than google results. The ones I have found are pay-sites for translating webpages and their translation from my experience is very bad as to make them worthless.
Correct me if I’m wrong.

Mahmood,
I don’t know if you follow the Wizbang awards, but I did note that there were many comments bemoaning the fact that you were not nominated for best Middle Eastern blog this year.
I reckon your time will come. It just happens that this was the year of Iraq The Model, for obvious reasons.

Re: Best Arab Blog Awards
You’re too kind Meggie! This project was started by both Haitham and I, and I think out of respect for conflicts of interest, we both decided that although our sites are listed, they will automatically be disqualified once voting comes about.
Although everyone like receiving presents, being nominated and winning something, as you said, this particular round won’t be ours. Maybe at a point in the future…
Re: Trackback :: Best Arab Blog Awards
Sorry for not to wtite in Arabic
Your idea is very excellent to network arab dissidents.
Best Wishes.
A Moslem from the ARABLAND
Re(1): Trackback :: Best Arab Blog Awards
What dissidents my friend? The BABA Award was started to promote the use of the Internet for personal and commercial means by the Arab world. They most certainly were not started with any thought whatsoever as a “network arab dissidents.”
Regarding your claim to be a Muslim from “Arabland”, I somehow don’t think that Germany classifies as one, does it?

Silly Bahraini Girl definitely deserves an award! She’s so cool!
Best Arab Blog Awards
I’m so impressed!
I’m an Arab, whose lived in a number of Arab countries, and more recently moved to living in Montreal, Canada.
I was just google-ing ‘Arab blogs’ as a friend and I were thinking of starting one ourselves, perhaps to give us a space to voice all our experiences and consequent reflections and thoughts, and yes, to contribute to the building of “a bridge between ourselves, the Arabs and the world at large”.
Since I’m here, I just wanted to drop in a quick ‘Bravo’ and encouragement to continue arena’s of exchange like this one, this is great!
Lots of respect.
Rania.
