Job-seekers to get work ethic lessons

Job-seekers are to get compulsory classes on the work ethic and how to behave in the workplace.

They will have to take the classes if they want the Labour Ministry to help find them jobs, it was announced yesterday.

They will also be put through training schemes for specific jobs, but will only be employed if they pass.

The new scheme was revealed at a meeting yesterday of a joint task force made up of private employers and ministry officials.

Companies will also be able to specify the training they want potential recruits put through before starting work, said Assistant Under-Secretary for Training Abdulelah Al Qassimi, who chaired the meeting.

“The ministry will provide the necessary training after signing an initial employment contract, stipulating that the job-seeker must pass the training programme,” he said.

Once the job-seeker successfully completes the training programme, a new contract will be signed for him or her to start work immediately.

The task force was set up earlier this month to help find work for a list of job-seekers gathered from towns and villages.
