iPOD vending machine!

How about this? An iPOD vending machine at an airport. What else can they think of, and it’s even now still regarded as a “hip” thing. Well it is and it works! I couldn’t do without my iPOD in the car and in the gym.

But Nokia with its forthcoming N91 believes that it can beat the iPOD in a few months from release. They could be right, Apple never had a good distribtution policy and they are STILL missing out on a lot of sales particularly in the Gulf. Fantastic products, (generally) crap distribution.

My daughter says the same thing about her Creative Jukebox. Shes had it almost 2 years while many of her friends have been thru 2 iPODS. http://creative.com/products/welcome.asp?category=213 Do they come preloaded with different types of music? Maybe I can send them playlists 🙂

How do you buy an iPod from a vending machine? I don’t carry around 300 dollar (or whatever!) bills with me, and I’m loathe to stick a credit card into some random vending machine.

It sounds like something only the Japanese could think up. They have everything in vending machies over there, from beer to brassieres and more.

    iPOD vending machine!

Saw one kind of like this in a local mall here in Taxachusetts err Massachusetts, only it didn’t have IPODS per se but IPOD accessories. I wonder how long before the machine becomes damaged from vandals or irate consumers who don’t get their products but get a hefty charge on their Credit Card. One thing to lose $1.00 on a Coke or Bag of Chips but to lose $20+ on an iPod accessory in a malfunctioning vending machine…..

With the margins Apple expects us dealers to operate with, I think it’s a great idea! You can spend just as long with a $300 iPod sale as with a $5000 G5 & monitor sale. I’d love one of those babys sitting out the front of the store (wheel it in at night, of course!).

ha! For the record though, I didn’t spot it, it was spotted most probably by Simon Bisson who’s picture is linked and displayed with this article. If you click on the picture it would obviously take you to his flickr albums not mine! I should make this fact clearer by actually putting his name and credit under the picture to give credit where its due!

Simon runs a blog at http://www.simonbisson.co.uk as well.

Thanks for letting me know about MacWorld though. Fun!

    iPod vending machine spotted

    By Macworld staff

Frequent air travellers live on the move, they need their music and they need their air miles – and like their music.

Spotted (by Mahmood Al-Yousif) at Atlanta Airport has been the first of what could maybe one day be many iPod vending machines. While not a 100 per cent iPod-dedicated device (the machine also sells batteries, phone cards, prepaid phones and printer cartridges), the existence of the vending machine does underline the mass market commoditization that’s taking place around the product.

Apparently, when a customer inserts their credit card to acquire a music player on an impulse buy (or to placate spouses or progeny after a long trip), a robot arm selects the device and drops it gently to the serving hatch.
