Picking the kids up from their music lesson, we went to the Harley Davidson shop (at Arif’s insistence, the kid’s got motorbikes on the brain these days, especially choppers.) Fortunately it was open! Their Ramadhan timing is from 4pm to midnight, and they even have a coffee shop to enjoy the view of these machines, have a coffee and I have a feeling that they also have wireless internet access there as well.
They’ve got some very very nice things in there. My daughter Hanan, as you see from the pictures, even found a cowboy hat to model!
(un)Fortunately I’m not a motorbike kind of person, so I’ll stick with things that have 4 wheels 🙂

Hey Mahmood, I found the slip of paper with my login details. Ole Meggie is legit again!
Anyway, I wanted to say I don’t understand anyone hankering after a motorbike in your part of the world. After all, riders need really thick substantial leathers, together with crash helmet, visor, and gloves to protect themselves from injury. How on earth anyone can bear the thought of wearing that outfit at your latitude is a mystery to me.
What are the regulations in Bahrain about helmets and visors?

You didn’t munch on any popcorn??????? They have some of the BEST popcorn on the Island according to my taste buds! If Arif wants to take a ride on Harley let me know and I will set one up for him.(he would be on the back of course!)
ciao!

are you talking about Arif or me? 😉
Re: At the Harley Davidson Shop
details my dear Meggie, details!
Mark would be able to tell you (or his dad rather) who has a Harley, I don’t know other than the necessity of wearing a helmet. Other than that I think it’s up to the person himself?
But I agree with you though regarding safety and motorbikes. Add to the normal hazards the soft sand that is omnipresent on our roads that make them even more slippery than wet ones, and if you mix both as when it rains here the roads become very slippery due to the mixing of water and dust making a dangerous muddy concoction, making the conditions for driving generally a hazardous enterprise.
I’ve got two friends who’ve got BIG Harleys, I’ve never been on one (and don’t want to be either) but I know that they enjoy it tremendously.
Re: At the Harley Davidson Shop
That shop certainly deserves another visit. I think the car dealership can take quite a few pages off their books because the atmosphere in the shop was wonderful. We were left alone to browse and the only thing that the sales manager said to us was “good evening” and left us be!
The atmosphere is very friendly and the decor itself invites people to browse and touch. I think the supercar dealerships should definitely visit and learn. I would love to just hang out at a Porshce or Ferrari dealership having coffee (and popcorn) and reading car magazines for an hour or so once in a while… I might even buy a car from them on one of those days!

Helmets and Eye protection are required and enforced by law. Your a fool if you don’t wear them anyway.
There is also a fairly extensive pre licensing course that must be completed prior qualifying for a license to operate a motorcycle in Bahrain. This applies to everyone regardless of whether you have a license to operate in your home country.
A funny thing tough is (unless it has recently changed) you can’t drive your motorcycle on the Causeway to Saudi without a special permit and escort. So if you want to ride around Saudi you have to trailer your bike over.
ciao!

Mahmood, you’re just not trying hard enough with the biker thang. We want to see you look the part in black leather and bloodstained distressed denim, patches, tattoos, a ZZ Top beard with plaits in it, mirror shades, and wizard hair tied back in a pony tail. Also, you will need to change your name to something rad such as “Edgy Hedge” or “Viking Mahmood” or “Goat”.
