Eid stoppers…

They gathered up in Barbar last night in Sayed Al-Wida’i’s house and listened to 26 witnesses who saw the moon, yet, the “hawza” thought, nope, it’s not Eid so we’ll delay it by a day and declare for Friday.

What fun!

Eid Mubarak guys and gals, I’m declaring Eid today!

Brilliant! I like your administrator and think that she’s most definitely on the right path. We should change ALL of our holidays to coincide with weekends (where you DON’T get days in lieu) or do the English thing and do Bank Holidays with just a couple of Mondays a year off!

That’s much better than the gazillion days off we get here every year… what a waste of business days and life. We seem to be living in a perpetual holiday, and then you get a whole month off for Ramadhan with a month before to prepare and another after to recuperate.

All of the above notwithstanding Abu Rasool, I wish you and yours a very happy Eid indeed and look forward to the day when we can meet in happy circumstances 🙂

    Re: Eid stoppers…

You have to ask why? It’s all to do with the politics of control. It is the one of the very few occasions in the year where they get to flex their dormant muscles to show people who’s really in control. And we let them!

Believe me Hashem, if there is ever an occasion to tell these turbanned lot that we’re not having it any more and follow a published and agreed calendar, that occasion will signal the end of their stranglehold on society and it is they who will have to give up control willingly and think of better ways to serve the community rather than the other way around.

Very few brave ones have seen the light in that they can no longer hold people to ransom like Fadhlallah for instance, but he is one and there are hundreds more who must come to the realisation that in this day and age and with the easy availability of information that they can no longer hold whole communities by the scruff of the neck any more and give them choice.

    Eid stoppers…

regardless of whether i agree or not without the whole eid process… What happened with the 26 witnessess isnt that simple,10 of them said they saw it at a time which is IMPOSSIBLE to be seen at (for ex. one of them said he saw it at 4), another 7 had other problems with their statements, one of them while having to describe where, when he saw it, said it was “upside down”,bottom line in the end they were around two – three that had a reasonable statement.

    Re: Eid stoppers…

I personally don’t care if there were 10,000 eye witnesses as eyewitness accounts have conclusively been demonstrated as less than accurate. What I am saying here is that pure science has demonstated that TODAY is Eid yet our revered and respected clerics still demanded eyewitness accounts. How disconnected are they really?

    Eid stoppers…

    salam
I feel so angry over the whole eid divide, why does this happen all the time? my mum was telling when she was younger when she lived in Quetta, that this whole sunni and shia divide didn’t happen and when they would announce eid day on the radio then the whole muslim community would celebrate eid together. My friend who was born in Bangledesh said the same thing. I feel there is alot of people complaining like u and me and yet nothing is done. Does anyone have any idea on how to get this whole decision unified or who to complain to? I feel so angry yet i don’t know who to express my anger to. I live in UK and we are celebrating eid today but alot of my family and friends are celebrating eid tomorrow. Not much of a party if u know ur relatives and friends are still fasting hmmm

    Eid stoppers…

Unlike you,I cannot challenge the authority of our own local mufti. She, in the guise of our study programme adominstrator, has heartlessly discarded my deocumented claims to have wintnessed the hilal.
Considering LU as a bona fide “hawza”, she let it be known that the Eid in Lund may be celeberated during the weekend.

    Still! happy eid.

    Enjoy your eid holidays 😉

    Eid stoppers…

    Well,

    Well?

    What?

You guys are lucky you don’t have much cloudy weather in the desert.

They had the same problem with excess holidays in the medieval E.U. I’ll have to go into my history to see how they solved the problem… what was it 239 days a year of religious reverie? I think they began to consider change after the crops in the fields began to rot and people actually had a food shortage over this. I’m interest now.
