I’ve been invited to give a talk about bloggers and credibility and be on the panel of “blogging 101” at the 4th annual conference of Arab Thought Foundation in Dubai on Dec 5th and 6th. If you’re around please look me up, I’ll be there for the duration.
I shall be joined at the panel by one of the founders of blogger.com and another blogging/internet luminary (don’t know who yet) so it should be really interesting.
Now WHO should be the scapegoat this time?

Re: The Arab Thought Foundation
You could, if I knew who you are. I would need your name to give to my bodyguards to let you pass you see!
Click the link or the logo, I’m staying as their guest in the Al-Qasr hotel I think.

Re: The Arab Thought Foundation
They are, but I told them all now to wear tarboushas so that they could be easily identified as I am so looking forward to meeting you. Seriously. I’m a sucker for intrigue 😉
See you tomorrow evening? Or is it after tomorrow morning?

Re: The Arab Thought Foundation
Me bad. Joker was the last one… hmmmmm How about Tariq? He deserves a good flogging with a rolled up GDN!
The Arab Thought Foundation
mahmood, how about if my bodyguards meet your bodyguards and leave us for a little while?
i sure need the excuse. i promise to be nice girl. hope you are as inspirational in person as you are on your blogs.
Re: The Arab Thought Foundation
Excellent! Done.
That’s the scariest part of blogging; people in person are seldom the same as their online persona. But I guess that’s up to you to discover and I hope I don’t disappoint, I have tried to maintain a single personality in both worlds, have I been successful? That’s for whoever met me to comment on.
The Arab Thought Foundation
Oh my God that’s today!!! If my experience in Miami was any indication it’ll be fun. Go kick some ass!
Update
Arrived and installed safely at the fantabulous Mina a’Salam Hotel. The conference is very well organised with the world’s who’s-who in media here, with various plenary sessions dealing in general and specific with the perception of Arabs in the western media, censorship, how India and China (which collectively constitute half of the world’s population) view us, citizen journalism, the future of radio and other very good topics.
I’ll be on the Bloggers and Blogging 101 panel, a session which starts in about an hour with Eric Case of Blogger.com/Google.
The most important thing to me is that I got to shake Frank Gardner‘s hand last night and aplologised for my part in not doing enough to stop these extremists in our midst. He still is bitter which is understandable, but he was happy to report that 5 out of his 6 attackers were killed, as promised to him by Prince Sultan, and the 6th is in jail. That’s 6 less terrorists on Earth, we need to exert more effort to get them to see the error of their ways and that terrorism is not the answer.
I’ll write a report about the trip when I get back to Bahrain.
Update 2
On the way back to Bahrain in a few minutes. I was privileged to meet and talk with several luminaries and thinkers at this gathering that it will take me days to digest all that was said and discussed.
I think I made several friends here as well, chief amongst which is Hamad Al-Ammari, whom I once again thank for his hospitality and dynamism, and the Arab Thought Foundation whose attempt at rapproachment should be comended and followed up with concrete actions to not only change the western perception of this area and its inhabitents, but even more importantly work diligently at promoting change from within, including the sincere examination of all that we hold dear, in order to go forth in this world at peace with all of those around us.
