First thing this morning, I read this in the GDN:
The mother of a 10-year-old boy was in deep shock late last night after watching him being crushed to death in a freak accident on the Shaikh Isa bin Salman Highway.
This was one of three accidents in a span of an hour that also left an Indian dead and two Bahrainis battling for their lives.
The boy was travelling with his mother in a car when it was hit from behind by another vehicle near the Map of Bahrain traffic signal. The impact threw open the passenger door and he fell out.
A car in the next lane, trying to make way for a Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) ambulance rushing on an emergency call, ran over him, sources told GDN.
My heartfelt condolences of course, but although the report does not mention if the boy wore a seatbelt, from the description it is evident that he didn’t. So he lost his life needlessly and through his parents’ criminal carelessness.
Coming back to the office after lunch and this is what I see at the Regency traffic lights, with a traffic cop just maybe 5 meters ahead of this car. No, he didn’t stop book them:

You might have noticed that none of the passengers wore seatbelts, and the mother in front was actually petting the boy sitting in lap, and he couldn’t be a day younger than 12!
She might as well shower him with love now, because I doubt that he will live long given his parents criminal neglect.

OMG… They need to more strictly enforce these seatbelt laws. I’ve been in one serious accident in Bahrain which was my fault (thankfully no one was hurt), but every time I look back at it I keep telling myself just to be thankful that it wasn’t one of the numerous cars on the streets here sporting a kid standing in the middle of the passanger and drivers seats…. I sincerely feel bad that this women lost her son in an accident… its horrible to lose someone like that, but we need to really take a long look at how these care free idiots let their kids use the car as a personal play pen, and enforcing standards against it more seriously, or we just end up with statistics and no solutions.

I have seen this sort of thing on airplanes. Kids under a certain age may sit on their parent’s lap. Not only is it uncomfortable for the child, the parent, and the passengers next to him (who have to endure his kicking and fidgeting), but should the plane meet some turbulence, the kid is going to flying out of his mother’s arms and get seriously injured.
A child should be in his own seat, belted in. Some parents are too cheap to buy the extra seat, but it’s the child’s safety they need to think of first.

Re: Morons on the road
Infants up to 2 years don’t get a seat on airplanes, but they do sell their parents tickets for 10% of the cost on the condition that the infant stays in the parents lap. They do provide child safety belts that hook into the parent’s seat belt to keep them secured during turbulance and take-off and landing.
Not so in cars of course as it should be law that infants MUST be put in child-seats until 4 years old (or more, I don’t know the exact age) and then kept in the back seat and strapped in while the vehicle is moving. Children under 10 should not be allowed to sit in the front seat.
Morons on the road
I was shocked at some of the sheer recklessness I saw with “parents” (and I use that word lightly) in Bahrain allowing their children to literally hang out of the Sunroof’s of cars and in general just to be held in Mom or Dad’s lap in the front seat of the car. Even while driving. Many times I witnessed this in plain site of the police. It didn’t seem to matter the social economic or racial background to much either. No one seemed to be immune. From BMW’s to Honda Accords. One must wonder at just how cheap life is to these people. I only wish I could have snapped some pics of these people and posted them on the web for all to see. License plates included in the pics of course.
But to have a police force IGNORE this is over the top. How many more spattered kids will it take for people to wake up a deal with the issue? Or is it the Inshallah mentality?

Am sorry to hear about that boy, read it in the GDN early mornin.
About that pics, idiots, very uncivilized. Travel in 2 cars, if not, do it in 2 shifts, why risk so many lives. Well some ppl just fail to comprehend road laws and the police, no comments, they’re equally idiotic. We need to start imposin strict fines or else ppl won’t learn.

Morons on the road
hi,
Long time since I posted here… Over the summer I finally came to Bahrain after 4 years of exile.. I was studying in the states and the first sight that I saw when I came out of Bahrain international airport was a family in a small sunny with a fregging 4 year old (i think) hanging out of the window and the mother is too busy talking on the cellphone and the dad is distracted with the driving. I mean what the hell is wrong with my fellow country men talking on the cellphone is more important than the childs safety as if putting the child infront was safe enough
. I was shocked after all these years in the states and seeing law abiding people, I thought that maybe Bahraini’s changed a bit and oh boy was i wrong!!!!!! Oh was I pissed at the traffic cops at the airport, they were more concerned at getting the drivers in and out of the loading area then with safety. Now dont get me started with the traffic cops and I am sorry to say this but they are the most unintelligent and moronic human beings of all ( i know its a generalized statement) but believe me they are a bunch of sore losers, me dad saw the same scene and he was in the literal sense telling me WELCOME TO BAHRAIN SON 😀 (the look on his face was priceless) You should see how many times the traffic cops fail people during driving tests for silly mistakes just to make the extra quick buck. Unless you have wasta some how I dont see how people pass the freggin exam with those shitty cars they make you drive (from experience).
Oh and i just remembered another day not so long ago I was taking my brother to the bus stop and while we were waiting for the bus, I see this guy driving his car and reading a newspaper that he somehow glued on the steering wheel now dont get me wrong here if it wasnt early in the morning i would of kicked his ass so bad that he would of started bleeding from his nose but out of respect for the old man that he was I kept my thoughts to myself until now. I enjoyed my little vacation in Bahrain after such a long absence and boy have things changed there. For all of you who are wondering where I am, I am somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere in a country just above the US. That is very cold and has shit loads of snow.
p.s I know that most traffic cops aren’t ignorant like I said but the majority rules. It feels so good bashing those idiotic traffic cops 😀 I am thinking about starting my own blog.

This is sad. And unfortunately the picture in the post, in my experience, showcases the norm in Bahrain and Saudi

Greetings Mahmood
This is the fishpond guy small bit of info for you pretty sad and unavoidable accident. Me and the wife were the second car in the turn lane going toward jid ali, I was sitting there watching this exact spot and what vinitha at the GDN wrote and what happened are two different stories just look at the picture the passenger side was destroyed it was hit at full speed by another car freak accident my ass, I said to my wife split second after it happened and said somebodies dead shortly after that a Bahraini had the respect to put a towel over this poor kid. The kid did not have to die .
Bye Bye
Morons on the road
Great pic Mahmood!
Morons on the road fill our streets, we have already had some posts highlighting this idiocy. This one I have seen a lot before I started our blog but haven’t seen any after we started, so great pic 🙂
There are a lot of dipshits, plus the incompetence of our police force who seem to enforce their power over polite people and people who don’t stand up for themselves. If it were me and I was nice to a policedickwad, he would give me a ticket, but one time I decided to check the other method, I didn’t care what he was gonna do and I flamed the guy, all he said was “ok just be careful next time”
It seems whoever puts their kid in their laps in the front have shitty attitudes since they don’t give a rat’s ass about their kids so why care about their safety? Secondly, since they have shitty attitudes they would start shouting and screaming at the sissy policeman so he let’s them go! What the heck?
There is even worse, there are ones who are actually DRIVING and put their kids in their laps, that’s even more fucked up than the previous case!
I dunno when these asswipes will get educated. But the good thing about having to write about it is that I used to get road rage just as soon as I get on the road, now I am waiting for someone to screw up to take pics and actually be happy about it! So my objective was met. I wanted to use writing as a method to release all that negative energy. But there is one thing left… I want all dipshits in Bahrain to see what we’re writing about, what is being written on M.tv or lifeinbahrain or other blogs etc. We want them to see what kind of people they are and I suspect that they will ever change, but at least they will know that they are hated by a lot of people who have to live with their shitty thoughts day in day out.

Re: Morons on the road
Yea man I support you 110 %
the old man (in his later 50s) by the looks was about to get his ass handed to him in a silver platter (yes if something happened god forbid) because that area he was driving by was full of school kids some walking to the bus stop while others walking to the school. Now imagine if this old fart got a little too indulged with the pictures in the shitty newspaper (ofcourse he cant read) and maybe got a little little distracted. This would of been a disaster waiting to happen and boy was I pissed. Either the Bahraini mucrackers at newspaper are exposing people left or right (I highly doubt it since most of their articles are about ass kissing and ass wiping) or this old fucker didn’t care about the lifes of the children he was endangering. Now I wont let the Bahraini teenagers get by…. No my home in Muharraq is surrounded by public schools. where my not so bright fellow brothern and citizens get their highly revered education (oh wait crap, most of them skip school by jumping over the wall and cause shit in the neighborhoods surrounding the school) they try to impress the chicks getting out of school by driving the shittiest car the fastest and what if god forbid one of these dickwads lost control over his car and knocked down some people. Most of our highly revered traffic cops (shit heads) are too involved in giving people tickets at the end of each month from small dents on cars then showing a slight concern for traffic safety and the safety of the people. Now I have to give credit where its fully due and thank god our drivers are not as skilled at rally driving like our NEIGHBORS the Saudis.
