These are the opposition’s demands for entering into a dialogue from a more reliable source:
The gist of the translated demands (original shown in Arabic below) are:
- A new constitution forged by a constituent assembly elected to establish a constitutional monarchy and an elected Government.
- The adoption of an equitable electoral system to achieve representation of all of our society.
- Dismiss the government and the formation of a transitional government whose mission is to achieve political and security breakthroughs so as to create a suitable ground for a serious and fruitful national dialogue. We reject the reduction of this important requirement through a limited cabinet reshuffle which is a repetition of the previous attempts which did not provide a real alternative to our people.
- Release of the remaining prisoners of conscience and political prisoners and the abolition of their trials.
- The formation of an independent and impartial commission of inquiry in the killings that took place since 14 February, and to bring those responsible to trial.
- Neutralization of the state’s official media in order for it to be nationally representative of all components of the society and their views.
- To provide the necessary safeguards to achieve the government’s commitment to agreements it undertakes.

Will there still be Alcohol? Because I’m willing to switch sides if there’s going to be alcohol 🙂
Whoever flagged your reply “thumbs down” are most probably from the opposition and that’s their answer to you…there will be no alcohol.
They’re itching to show the REAL slogan “the Islamic Republic of Bahrain” but they can’t show it yet because they wont get any sympathy from the world if their objective is turning Bahrain to mini-iran.
This is great. Now we need a focus on the first 2 and the last one, since the rest is ‘work’ for a representative parliament. An election commission is the first task, to reform the electoral system, and draft a constitution.
a very credible list … yet I would have liked it even more if the protesters at Al Fateh requested to join this coalition … they’re calling for unity right ?
Much better, and sounds like cooler and wiser heads have prevailed.
And will there still be alcohol? hehehe
Where are the names of Haq movement and Al Wafaa movement? As I’ve heard that the political socieities would agree on their demands to the government… And all agreed that the 14 February movement would have a say on the demands.
Creepy…
Will see whats going to happen…
will the constitution be secular.
will it respect human rights as any new government needs to be recognised by the UN.
in a democratic election and the new majority does not respect the rights of the minority dont we have the same situation we have now but in reverse.
based on uprising in other countries across the region will we end up with similar positions as Iran.
last but not least alcohol should not be banned.
again, someone idiot flagged this post as “thumbs down” just because he wrote alcohol.
Screw the opposition, they are a threat because they are the majority, and if it is a democratic election all of them will elect some religious hardliner who then will ban all TV channels except for Press TV and almanar! shit.
From the outside looking in that seems a particularly prudent and decent list of perfectly reasonable demands.
Be nice to visit and order a beer too.
This sounds like a much more reasonable and politically saavy list of demands.

LOL!!!
Dude, these are objectives achieved at the END, not BEGINNING, of dialogue!
After they give u all of the above, what is there remaining to talk to them about?!
DUDE you’re so, like, raawng, hehe. Like, they like need those garanteez like no? otherwize it’s surf’s up and do the kurlers without the, like, board!!!???? 😉 :p
W/e, just make sure u get those fuckin mutjaneseens OUT.
What’s that got to do with you? You’re neither Bahraini nor are living here, so what’s the connection? Stay out of our business please. We can sort out our own problems.
Ouch bro.
I get worried when so many of my Bahraini friends, from all walks of life, have so many differing opinions, views and preconceptions about each other.
I’ve even stopped reading the GDN for its biased approach. What a laugh saying the western media was biased when it is the opposite bias being fed to the expat community. How can the pro demostrations be labelled as a big party whereas the anti demonstrations are disruptive and messy affairs. It seems to me that perhaps blocking roads miles away, no where near from the anti protests, by police and security cars adds to this disruptive perception??!!
Why do the Sunnis think Shia want Iran in?? Theyve only followed the only people who gave them an inkling of a voice while they were being repressed for so many years. Give them back a voice and all you’ll hear is that they want to be Bahraini, not Iranians. Maybe a naive view but thats how I summarise it.
I dont want to leave the country where I’ve been for so many years, where I met my wife, where my children where born (They will gladly tell you theyre from Bahrain if you ask them; bless their uncorrupted minds), but seems I may be forced to soon. Before anyone dismisses my rants as just another spoilt uninterested expat, I too have invested heavily in this country, be it in time, family, aspirations, friendships, money etcetc. In the end I am deeply saddened to see it go. Just hope a serious dialogue can pave the way for what Bahrain should be; a multicultured welcoming forward nation…
hear hear!
perhaps you missed the point here brother … protesters at lulu are not preaching against expats … hell bahrain can’t even function normally without the expats … my assumption is that they are talking about those with unrightfully granted passports … the result of demographic engineering init ?
@expatbutbahrainiatheart
You said it.
Please! If you have been living here for so long you should at least know what kind of a PM they will elect! And that should falsify all of your post above.
Mohammed Al Daaysi
I agree with you there, I went to the pearl and had discussions with several people, however it seems the ladies are very hardlined. I have coached and sponsored Bahraini’s and even funded some of the problems they were having. All good people I ran into. I would gladly stay for another 10 years if possible.
