Back from Dubai… like Father Christmas!

Phew! That was a hectic trip. I had to go a meet with a prospect in Dubai at a moment’s notice. Called on Tuesday afternoon and was on a airplane to Dubai at 8pm. It was a good trip all around.

The prospect is an international financial channel that’s starting a bureau in Bahrain. I met with the decision makers and was very impressed by them. Very professional. Hopefully that will be converted into a long term relationship.

Also just by chance I met with a couple of friends from Avid Peter Ramsay and Karen Breedon and we spent most of Tuesday night and Wednesday together. Tuesday night we had dinner at the excellent La Parrilla Argentinean restaurant on the 25th floor of the Jumeira Beach Hotel and had their sumptuous steaks (which I doubt you will get any better anywhere else in the world!)

Then on Wednesday it was shopping galore in the City Centre Mall and got everyone at home something to cheer them up. It certainly cheered me up no end as well by grabbing the new Canon Digital IXUS 400, a dinky little SonyEricsson bluetooth headset, the HBH-60!

The real pleasure however was buying 4 (yes four!) phones, 3 for the kids and 1 for the wife. What the kids got is the new Nokia 3300 [review] and Frances got the Nokia 7250i.

Now I bought all of these things in town, so when I got to the airport I thought I’d check the prices in the Duty Free. I shouldn’t have… it pissed me off to find out that I would have saved $132 had I bought at the Duty Free! The reason I just got them from the City Centre Mall is because the last time I was through Dubai, they were all out of stock in the Duty Free… ah well, at least everyone’s happy!
