Minor improvements to the site

I just want to bring to your attention a couple of small improvements to the site which you might find useful:

1. Now you can page through the site! At the bottom of main pages you will find this:

pagenav.jpg

2. When you read a single story, you can now go to the next or previous story as well. These links are presented at the top of the page, it looks something like this:

3. As a few people complained that the theme I’m using “renders the comments all the way down on the page” which, in fact is just rendering the comments after all the contents of the SideBar, I have therefore disabled the SideBar if you are viewing an individual story or when you click on a comment link, this shortens the page considerably and I hope makes it easier to navigate and view/read the comments. Do let me know if you like this new way of displaying comments, or the old one please. I like the old one personally as I can just scroll to the top and click on the next unread comment from the “recent comments” block on the left, but let me know what you prefer and I’ll look into it.

Do let me know also if you wish to see any other improvements to the site generally or specifically.

Thanks.

update 060911: I’ve had to put the sidebar on which because of its length, will push the comments further down the page. I just got fed up of having to go to the front page every time I wanted to read the next comment. I hope you can put up with it for now.

Hey mahmood, thanks for the new improvements, whatever happened to your arabic blog? It hasnt been updated since forever or not really the discussions you have up in english?

Busy busy busy… and frankly, I enjoy doing this a lot more. That will remain an occasional update thing, for now at least.

I really thought you were, even with this blog, there used to much more updates that at the current, which I believe is anormal thing. Keep up the good work Mahmood, I admire your self-confidence really. But was hoping, as I agree with most points you adresse here, that you would post the same thing in arabic, or at least same prespective. As it would give mostly the arabic speakers the sense of whats right and whats wrong, and whats really going on. I got so happy when you first opened the arabic version of the blog, and I wished I could write in arabic so I can connect my thoughts to arabic speaking people. Anyways, thanks for thenew improvments again, and really looking forward the arabic blog.

    Peace homie.
Oh, wish me luck, going to play poker in an hour at the casino. Im so silly :(.

Thanks Gizmo, and don’t hit the tables too hard!

As to Arabic blogging, I was shocked at the variance of opinion between the audience and their views here (in the English version) and those who come to the Arabic blog.

For instance, see the responses I got on the Nancy Ajram post, most are just childish and sickening. It’s a totally different mindset and I am led to believe that the majority of people reading Arabic blogs are school kids with set minds made of stone that I ask myself if its even worth fighting that fight.

Yes, I want expose them to my way of thinking and to get them to realise that tolerance is really a good thing, but I don’t have the time, add to that my imperfect Arabic and the time it takes me to type anything in Arabic, and you get very tired very quickly.

I’m not saying that I won’t be posting in Arabic again… all I’m saying is that I shall, but it will be a lot less frequent that here.

I say, typical “Oh look at me I’m oh so faithful to my beliefs” attitude.

That’s why I stay out of arabic forums to be honest.

    Attitudes like that.

Good changes, Mahmood. You did a nice job modifying the wordpress Tarski theme.

There’s a site you may be interested in looking at (or anyone else who sees this comment) to analyze and improve your blog’s search-engine optimization: now you’re registering a score of 75 out of 100 – which is acceptable, but you can probably get up to 90 or better with a few theme changes (assuming the scores make any difference; the WordPress codex has mixed messages about it).

But the site’s free, and it only takes a minute, and if you want to analyze your blog, go to:

    http://www.sitening.com/tools/seo-analyzer/my-analyzer/

and enter your web address, and it will generate an instant report

When she can perform on public TV — hair down, bare shoulders undulating, hips swaying — in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afganistan, and Pakistan without fanataics storming the studio, the conflict will be over)
