Mahmood and the iPhone!

Mahmood and the iPhone!

Mahmood and the iPhone!, originally uploaded by malyousif.

Mahmood got his sticky mitts on the new Apple iPhone, Kris’ iPhone, which he only received yesterday direct from the States.

The phone functions of course does not work, we tried both MTC Vodafone and Fashelco‘s chips to no avail, but the function and the music and the movies and the WiFi and everything else is just, like, to die for (the last part done in Paris Hiltonesque voice please!)

UPDATE 25 Aug, ’07: The game is up, full SIM unlock achieved ->

It’s high noon, Apple and AT&T — we really hate to break it to you, but the jig is up. Last night the impossible was made possible: right in front of our very eyes we witnessed a full SIM unlock of our iPhone with a small piece of software. It’s all over, guys.

It was announced that O2 will be the telco for the iPhone here in the UK (Orange in France and TMobile in Germany), which is my network! Can’t wait until November–December to buy one of these.

  2. Magnus

Nothing’s been “announced” about who will carry iPhone in Europe or here. It’s all still rumors.

So the iPhone is activated with AT&T? Is it still on an AT&T contract?

  3. Vagabondblogger

    I hate you! Actually, not!

There’s been a great debate in our household about the iPhone and having to change providers, just to get it to work. I’m not happy with what I’ve heard so far and have tried to calm everyone down (particularly Number One Son) by telling them to wait for the second generation. Besides, if AT&T can’t keep up with unlocking it in a timely fashion, then I’m sure Jobs will change his mind (okay, so we’re hoping he will.)

ha ha….you’ve logged on the Mahmoods Den!

Sorry I didn’t make it last night, I’ll have to catch up with you guys in November or something. Although, my status as a bahraini blogger, or indeed a blogger should probably be punctuated with a large question mark these days!

    This not fair 🙁

Did you have any probs with the virtual keyboard? Was it easy to type?

    And apparently he already succeeded.

No matter, the iPhone is coming to Europe in Oct/Dec so it shouldn’t be all that far for it to be released in the ME.

Now will Apple keep the same channel as they do for their Mac products, or would they open up the market more, like make contracts only with telcos and forget about their local dealers?

  10. Munther

I’ve got a gut feeling that batelco will manage to tie a long term deal with Apple, I just feel it !

Oh well, here goes my decent MTC number ! 🙁 But obviously I’d do anything to get my iPhone ! Even if it means signing a contract with the devil “batelco” 😉

I know that you wouldn’t have been able to judge but what is its worst flaw Mahmood ?

I kinda have the same feeling as Munther. Batelco will probably go in with full force. Have you seen their latest Ad campaigns? They’re trying to stay on top!
Mahmood, you look like you lost some more weight, what’s your secret?

    Peace,

Like eauw mah gawd, thaht is seauw cull! (said in my best approximation of my own Californian accent)

    🙂

I would not be surprised if in 6 months, Apple puts out another version with more options.

The tech news last night mentioned that the technology for touch screens is becoming popular on devices. They showed an MP3 player which uses the technology to change volume, select tracks, etc.

I’ve been hanging out the iphone dev chat rooms for a while now… unlcoking became easy, and they got shell access a few minutes ago. My guess is it will be unlocked this week, so buy one now while they’re still cheap 😉

my shipment is already on the way, even though there are no guarantees

Thanks for the confidence boost SoulSearch! The fact of the matter is that I gained a few kilos since I was bedridden after the fall, but am – once again – diligently trying to lose it again.

    Wish me luck!

Hey I have a question. When you say it does not function what does that mean. How can the wifi work if it cant make calls…please explain?

different circuits. The WiFi is part of the “computer” side of the phone but the talking part is part of the telephony thing that needs the chip to work.

  18. Janelle

so if you put a chip in, it wont make calls? Is there a reason for this?

Only a loser with a very sad life would get excited about a phone that doesn’t work. Why waste a blog entry for this? Or was it an excuse to just show us your lovely face one more time?

Good God, my IQ just fell a million miles through the ground and came out the other side of the earth. Can you please, for the love of whatever it is you believe in, stick to talking about what you know!

Hey don’t you ever underestimate the iPhone it is a great device, and if he wasted a blog entry and got excited for getting one lots of people including myself want to read about it and simply be jealous, and after all it is his blog.

Let me see try to explain it if you claim to be so damn smart then.

This whole thing with the iPhone is just overhyping it. Like an iPod. They do what all other MP3 players do, just look a bit more fancy, and have more bugs.

    I’m getting an N95.

  24. Ammar

Its a locked phone. Very basically put, Apple makes a deal with a specific phone company to sell the phone with line/chip. The phone is programmed to only work on that specific companies chip. It could be unlocked if someone knows what theyre doing, but I wouldn’t spend that much money on a brand new iPhone with no warranty and thats had its internals tampered with. Thats just asking for trouble.

so how much it cost if i’m going to buy it in bahrain ??
or what do you advice !

  27. ehsan

    nawara,

If you need an 8 Gig video iPod, I advise you to buy it. It’s BD 300 now on eBay. I love mine, even more after using it to watch movies on the plane.

If you want a phone, then there are many better “phones”. I’ll go for the Sony Ericsson W960 (8 GB, 3.2 mp cam, 3G, buttons). But nothing beats the iPhone on style.

I’m just waiting for these guys to finish their work.

  28. ehsan

Sorry Hussain I had it working for a while before Supersim, so you’re not first 😉 . My services on the other hand, are free 🙂 drop me a line if you want mahmood.

Isn’t it the best phone you ever used?
