They’re shaping up quite nicely so far, but not sure how they’ll fair with the weather suddenly turning cooler.

In any case, I hope you have a wonderful weekend my friends.

Mahmood’s Den gets a new make-over

I know I know, once a blogger always a blogger. I won’t even put a name to it, but almost every search I do gets me back to a previous article I have written here or a comment from one of the over 44,000 comments entered over the years and I get that pang: “maybe I should write about this” etc. I’m sure many other bloggers would sympathise with the situation.

Anyway, I’ve purchased and customised a new theme for Mahmood’s Den, it’s got many more features, should be considerably faster than the previous heavily modified theme I used and should also be somewhat pleasing to the eyes.

Please let me know what you think and do let me know if you find a problem too.

Muchas gracias amigos.

Want greener grass? Pee on it!

manneken_pis_boy_peeing_urinating_outdoor_garden_water_fountain_pondThat’s not too far from the truth actually, urea in the human body carries waste nitrogen out of the body in urine, it’s the same chemical component that releases nitrogen where it is most required, the stuff is packed with nitrogen! I normally spread urea on my lawn after cutting it once every summer and it almost instantly turn luscious green.

Well, the gardeners at a National Trust property in Cambridgeshire, UK, are urging men to pee outdoors to help gardens grow greener – and as no flushing is needed, they reckon they spare 30% of their water usage in every single day!

But, they caution, men’s pee is much more sought after than women’s, the latter’s stuff is much more acidic that it might do damage rather than good 😉

“The pee bale is excellent matter to add to our compost heap to stimulate the composting process; and with over 400 acres of gardens and parkland to utilise compost, we need all the help we can get.”

Now do excuse me while I go do my part to green my neighbour’s garden!

Bananas!

Bananas!

Bananas!, originally uploaded by malyousif.

It’s almost mid November and Bahrain’s weather is still in the 30s C. No wonder the plants are confused. The banana tree is showing a new crop, in November!

Although it’s Friday the 13th today, do have a fantastic and peaceful Friday my friends.

The first of the season! I love this plant which I grew from seed a couple of years ago. Although heavily attacked by mealy bugs and fungus this year, it survived after I heavily pruned the worst affected parts. I look forward to more of its gorgeous flowers.

I’ve got some seeds if you want to add this lovely plant to your garden. Please contact me if you want some.

Have a wonderful Friday my friends.

Adeniums in Wat Aroon temple

“Wat Aroon” the Temple of Dawn, Bangkok, Thailand

They’re almost “normal” in Bangkok, adeniums are all over the place and they flourish, puts mine to shame and eggs me to do better.

Well, thanks to a friend, I received 5 adeniums grown from seed in Bahrain. After this trip to Thailand, I finally know how and where I want to plant them.

Thanks Jean!

Have a wonderful Friday my friends.

Off to Bangkok

I’ll be off to Bangkok tonight for a week on a production job for one of our clients. If you know any places where you think I should film in Bangkok which you think should be incorporated in the corporate video we’re making (at least for the intro part), please let me know by entering a comment.

No, I’m not going to feature the seedy side, so save those comments!

It seeded itself from another that unfortunately died. But I’m really glad that it took matters into its own hands. It’s still a very small bush by the front door but I look forward to it filling that space.

Have a wonderful Friday my friends.
