Of course, Islam is not immune from criticism nor ridicule in countries with a free press. Islam has done much to rightfully draw criticism and ridicule. This campaign to demand Western media respect Islam and censor itself is one of the many things that Islam does that makes it look ridiculous, petty, and backward.
When the US identified 15 of the 19 skyjackers of Sep 11 as Saudi, the Saudis claimed for six months that these identifications were false and due to racism and bigotry. I’m still waiting for the Saudis to apologize for that, if they want to traffick in apologies.
The West is coming to its limit in patience with radical Islam. Even the Europeans have realized that appeasement of such claims exacerbates the problem.

Hmmm.. Technically, there is no ground in assuming arabic (or Bahraini dialect, and o’many of them) fluency just because someone is Bahraini, as I would like to think that some number of people in Bahrain are living in post-modern times. I am Bahraini, but unfortuantely I only barely used Arabic language 10% of the time for the past 10 years, and now I find it hard to translate to, but not from, Arabic, and now I think in English (I know why and how this is possible, because I’ve just handed in a bloody dessertation on bilinguilism).

Oh dear me,

Would love to, but I need to get it approved and copywrite-ed.
However, the basic idea is, you have a conceptual system (where you store the concepts of everything, say, an apple: red or green, fruit, edible, found on tree branches, etc) and you have seperate stores for your first language (which contains the name representations of the concept of apple in arabic–> toffaha) and your seocnd language (which contains the name representations of the concept of apple in english–> Apply/or grannysmiths or so).
The key dynamics reside in the learning and usage process. The more you use a language (say second language of english) you do not translate what you want to say from arabic anymore, instead you draw information directly from your conceptual system.
from: Concept–> arabic–> english
to: Concept–> english
now that english is your dominant (first-ish) language, the english-to-arabic translation route would change:
from: English–> arabic (assuming that you learn english by word assosiation)
to: English–> conceptual system–> Arabic (which is a longer route).
that’s why you find it hard to translate from english to arabic, and find it easy (I bet) to translate from arabic to english.

disclaimer: my Arabic and my attempts at translation suck. I can think it and write it, but still have huge problems switching to/from it, so please excuse the crude translation. You deserve this, as I wasn’t intending to do the translation, now suffer!

Not necessarily stored in different stores. To be more precise, the conceptual system is (most propably) only one, and the name representations from each language (despite the order) are stored or accessed seperately.
The possible reasons why a second language word would pop up in your head instead of one from your mother tongue when thinking about a word in your third language, are 1) your second language is more diominant the your first language, hence a more automatic access from the conceptual system to your second (dominant language); or 2) perhaps you learnt the third language word by association to the second language word.
It’s all theoritical, with some evidence, but other theories are still competing and other explanations are quite possible.

what i find insteresting is that when i was learning a 3rd language and i was searching for a word, the one that would pop up in my head would be from my 2nd language & not my mother tongue. does that fit into your theory? i mean, are all languages subsequent to your mother tongue stored in a different area?
