It’s like the Shi’a “leaders” in Bahrain are aiming for a home run; the bases are pretty loaded now, we just need one more good screw-ball pitch and we’re in!
- First we have that “down with secularism” from Isa Qassim during two of his Friday sermons,
- Then we have the followers of Sulaiman Al-Madani (deceased) categorically stating that secularists are outside the bounds of religion, a kaffir, and should be killed as his blood is forfeit,
- then we have an ex-labourer who wore a turban later in life and became a member of parliament, chosen by 90% of his constituents releasing a stinker and labelling not just a fellow member of that august institution a “Nasbi” – essentially a kaffir – but extending that description another power and labelling the Mecca and Medina imams are even more of Nasbis than Saidi!
Brilliant. Well done. Let’s ignore the first two points and concentrate on the third for now. The thing that prompted it is this picture:
The above, my friends is a prayer conducted in parliament led by Jassim Al-Saidi, a known Wahabi extremist and the guys praying behind him are (from L to R) Jawad Fairooz, Ali Salman, Adel Al-Moawdah and I don’t know the fourth person, but from their stances you would know that the first two are Shia while the second are Sunnis. Big deal, right? Actually, it should have been a cause for celebration as it shows that “the leaders” of both communities can actually co-exist and can accept the others; thus, firmly planting the seed of social cohesion and anti-sectarianism.
That’s the theory, but some has seen this event as a total and utter humiliation of the Shi’a! “Why would Ali Salman, the protégé of Isa Qassim – the defacto leader of the Shi’as in Bahrain – pray behind a known sectarian person from the Sunna? This is totally unacceptable, off with his head!”
The Al-Wefaq PR machine was overworked in the few days and weeks following that incident with various talks about that there is nothing wrong with it, etc. It was almost forgotten – well, in Bahrain things like this are never allowed to be forgotten, grudges are held for centuries! It has now resurfaced due to a huge stinker of a brainfart by the ex-labourer-now-member-of-parliament-turbaned-good-for-nothing-guy:

This is beyond disgusting.
Now, as expected, the “wronged” party – Jassim Al-Saidi – has mounted his horse (rightly too I think) in demanding an apology not just for himself, but also for the imams of Mecca and Medina and wants Al-Wefaq – to which Al-Dairy belongs – to issue a statement declaring their position from Al-Dairy’s assertions. But Saidi, true to his reputation takes it even further:

And the spiral will continue with this slug-fest for a few weeks or even months and for tens of years it will be referred to to show “the depth of depravity of the other side” and what do we poor citizens get from this worthless parliament?
BD20 for every citizen which the government hasn’t even approved yet, so we realistically don’t get anything other than to continue to wade through the quagmire of sectarian strife perpetuated and propagated by none other than what we choose to call “our leaders” whom we have put in parliament and whom we pray behind.
We truly deserve the government we get.
The right and proper thing to do now, as far as Al-Wefaq is concerned, is immediately throw Al-Dairy out on his stupid ass. A person like this should not be allowed to represent us. He has damaged the cause of not just Al-Wefaq but the whole Shi’a community worldwide and has amply demonstrated his utter stupidity that Al-Wefaq does not need now.
By his own admission in the interview he classifies his contribution as zero, so Al-Wefaq will not be missing his brain-juice. Throw the stupid twerp OUT. NOW!
nasbi – ناصبي– is a person who declares his hate of the progeny of prophet Mohammed and regards himself as their enemy, which in essence makes the person a heretic. By inference that person also detests the Shi’a and all that entails. A very choice word for an elected member of parliament to use, is it not?

That is indeed the government we choose.. 19 seats to represent us. It will be interesting how they play this one…
“Of All Life’s Virtues, Peace Is One That Does Not Demand Seperation”
mmmm . . .
Does anyone actually care what these guys do anymore.
Actually, is Western style democracy (one person one vote) suitable for Islamic countries anyhow? I can’t think of a single peaceful Islamic country which has it. The culture encourages sheepism in the name of religion – we all want the benefits of democracy but fail to see that this means getting putting democracy first and religion second. ( You will note that it is not putting God second – only religion)
Until then Bahrain only has an Iraq style chaos to look forwrad to.
The monarchy is the only thing that can keep the lid on things and keep a united Bahrain. Like it or not the King is a central figure that is critical to preserving that balance and I hope we see more of him doing just that -stepping in and drawing the line.
These amateurs are still learning what it means to be in parliament, what it means to have rights and responsibilities. Left to their own devices they would bring havoc upon us, I am referring to those of both sides, it is time that they are reprimanded for their ways.
Bahrain does not need this nonsense. We dont need to know or care about who is shia and who is sunni. What we need is a people who are focused on working and working hard, contributing to our economic growth and prosperity.
Look at Dubai, look at Qatar – they laugh at you, they laugh at how you have blundered the journey of economic development and spent your effort on bickering and patheticness.
All this is a waste of time and effort, a distraction from bigger and more lucrative goals. I hope that the people of Bahrain will not learn THIS lesson the hardway.
Two simple rules in life: 1. Never trust people who wear funny hats. 2. Never trust people who speak with funny voices. (By a funny voice I mean one that doesn’t sound natural, but as though the person is listening to him or herself talk and enjoying the sound. Common among both politicians and religious types, and among media folk.)
The only good thing about religions is that they have a lot of holidays —
Other than that, they cause nothing but trouble in the world.
🙁
I was shocked to read something like that in the newspaper. That is the last thing we need right now.

Salaam Mahmood!
Interesting take.
I agree with Chanad question. Your reference to Deiri as an ‘ex-labourer” sounds like a put down. Please note that HE Khalifa al-Dhahrani is an ex-labourer. He also made several bloops.
Niether his unforgettabe/unforgivable foul-ups nor Deiri’s are caused by their being ex-labourers. Both literally are idiots, i.e. lacking the professional skills needed for their jobs. AbuRasool.

No offence meant to labourers of course, it was a badly chosen method to demonstrate his, erm, lack of intellect rather than to denigrate labour or labourers who do get my respect and admiration.
With all due respect, somebody doesn’t know how to read Arabic properly….. They guy said “if he was a na9ibi, then …†what I understand from his sentence is a condition, an assumption perhaps, but not an accusation.
In logic, the statement “If X is stupid, then Y is more stupid than X†is not affirming that X is stupid and neither is Y, it is just a condition based on the assumption that in case X was stupid then Y is more stupid than him!

Semantics my dear Watson, semantics.
I agree with Reader, not only is Deiri’s statement contingent. But you also mistranslate the meaning of ‘nasibi’; it is not the same as being a ‘kaffir’ as you’ve eluded to in the post. A nasibi is a person who does not believe in the religious eminence of the progeny of the prophet – the ahlul-bayt and who openly declares that. Wahhabis are nasibis but sunnis in general are not. The wahhabi imams of mecca ordered the destruction of the Prophet’s original house, the closure of the baqee3 and the cordoning of the prophet’s tomb in Medina, so that the ‘rafidis’ do not ‘worship’ it. Take this article for example:
Al-saidi and his wahhabi/salafi ilk are not exactly the beacon of tolerance and love. However this in itself does not justify Deiri to be equally provocative with the tone of, ‘even IF they are nasibis’ each word is like a ball of fire in the heavily sparked political environment.

Hasan, thank you for that and I won’t fight you for your definitions. Correct or otherwise don’t really detract from the fact that the good MP Mr. Al-Dairy was at best insensitive in his choice of remarks and I personally don’t have a doubt that he actually meant what he said but wrapped in derrière coverage.
The issue is (to Just Me as well) did he, as a representative of the people, need to descend to that level simple to excuse the actions of Al-Wefaq or some members of his block choosing to pray behind Al-Saidi? Why should we descend to the level of Saidi and his ilk for levelling scorn and blame on the Shi’a and wishing them the darkest ill?
Regardless of how you translate this incident semantically, does the country require yet another distraction from the real issues?
Just me I won’t descend into the takfiri circle with this or any other issue. But to me denigrating the Prophet and his progeny is tantamount to denigrating the very Islam we belong to.
But answer me this, while these jokers are bickering on their petty issues and in spite of them the country continues to be run relatively smoothly, investment is increasing, jobs are being created and prosperity in general is starting to reach the individual. Can the parliament or any parliamentarian put claim to any of this progress? No they can’t. Ironically (?) the people who deserve praise for this are none other than the ones that people have set as scapegoats for the ills of this country.
How ironic.
I know I know, it’s all a conspiracy theory.
But then we can’t blame anyone but ourselves for electing these jokers into positions of power.

I also wonder if the respected MP peppered his interview with these terms just to distract from the meat of the interview which includes his admission that both he and his bloc have contributed zero to parliamentary work.

Hussain,
We’re not here to guess or argue on what goes of our MPs minds,
The use of words like “Nasbi” and “Rafidhi” is really unacceptable at any level and context.
Both sides are wrong and I that non of them win a seat next time, we’re sick of Al-Menber, Al-Asala and Al-Wefaq and any other secterian religous group.
Imagine someone in the congress saying “I don’t call X a nigger” and “If X is Nigger, then Y is more Nigger than X”. This guy will be collecting cans of the street the day after.

I do not myself agree much with any of the groups mentioned by Mohammed Isa by I think it was wrong of him to say that “we are sick of xxxxx”.
The post here does not show that he speaks on behalf of a certain group. I think it would have been more appropiate and certinly more democratic for him to have said ” I am sick of xxxx”.
Abdulkarim,
Thanks for correcting me, you’re right, some people are ok with them, but allot of people are disappointed.
If they’ll continue performing the same way more people will be disappointed.
One things that I really don’t like is to see a proposal that can benefit people not being supported by another group because of nothing but sectarian differences.
Isa,
Yes you are right many people are disappointed with the performance of their elected MPs.
I can only hope that one day people on these islands along with their MPs start seleberating their differences more rather than pretending that there are no differences.
Regards,
